Net Admin with LymphomaFebruary 10 Oncology Consult tomorrow (~4 years now) My appointment is tomorrow to review CT & Blood test results. Almost 4 years since my diagnosis (3/05) and 3.5 years since my last chemo (8/05). I picked up both results today; they look ok. Except they both say: "I'm fat" lool... CT report: "evidence of fatty infiltration" and blood test shows my cholesterol and Triglycerides (دهون) (and ALT) a bit on the high side, but nothing a quick diet and a few trips to the gym won't fix. Anyway, will update after my appointment tomorrow insha'Allah January 25 CT Scan in half an hourUpdate: Made it out in one piece ;-O! Results in two weeks insha'Allah. Hey world! It's been a while. My last visit with the oncologist was on16 October 2008 to review blood test results which were fine. Today, I'm scheduled for a CT scan in KCCC/Makki Jum3a new AL-Eissa (?) building at 10:07 (yes, that's the time as specified on the appointment print out; as if they'd be that accurate loool; last time in March, they had problems with the machine and I had to wait like 4 hours!!) I arrived at 7:40 because I have to drink a dye/juice two hours before the CT (so that my abdomen is bright and shiny on the x-ray! lool). They were out of KDD cocktail juice in the CT reception (which they give you to mix with the dye to sweeten the taste), and apparently the store was locked and the key is not with them. The guy had to run down to find the key. Fortunately, it wasn't long and we got the mixture mixed and I started drinking the juice (1Litre mixture one small cup every 15 minutes for two hours) As I mentioned, my last CT scan here was delayed for 4 hours or so because they had problems with the CT machine or electricity or something. So, we'll see what happens this time... 27 minutes left and counting.... One difference I noticed between the CT scans I had in London and the ones here in Kuwait lately, in London they make sure to tell you when to take a deep breath and hold it and when to let it go. In Kuwait so far, they didn't have any such instructions! Even after I mentioned this to the Philipino technician he dismessed it as not required... hmmm... Well, a couple of weeks ago I was attending a project management course and there was a Doctor who is head of Radiology in a hopistal. So, I mentioned the "breathing" issue and he said it is important to get as clear an image as possible of the organs, etc... I guess that could depend on the case in question, but I would think that when it comes to cancer, you'd want everything to be as clear as possible, right? loool... I'll try to mention the breathing this time to the technicians and see what they reply. I'll post an update once I'm done (IF I make it out in one piece). April 28 I'm on safat.kuwaitblogs.com?!I just realized that this blog was listed on safat.kuwaitblogs.com.
I think I came across kuwatiblogs a few years ago and noticed my blog, but I didn't know that the blog needs to be submitted.
It seems someone submitted this blog without me knowing.. hmm... maybe a friend.
Unless at that time, kuwaitblogs was adding Kuwait related blogs?
Interesting.
Anyway, I think I'll be moving to blogger.com/blogspot.com
My daily blog will be: http://ramblingengineer.blogspot.com/ (recently submitted to kuwaitblogs for consideration)
I've also created one about my medical condition: http://nhlsurv.blogspot.com/
But I think I'll keep blogging about that on this spaces blog since its already on kuwaitblogs.com
Let's see, my last entry was on 18th April. The main point was whether I should consider PET scan. It seems it shouldn't be necessary at this point.
Oh, and I saw my haematologist at Ahamdi Hospital yesterday. He mentioned that there are recent changes for Lymphoma treatment/strategies. He said there was a new drug that he was excited about, but then when he recalled my Lymphoma was of the "high-grade" category he said oh, the drug doesn't apply to it..lol..
But interestingly, he also added that Mapthera/Rituximab treatment that is given along with the usual CHOP (chemo) during chemo treatment, is now being continued for 3 months or also after the chemo treatment. The reason is, it dosn't have the nasty side-effects and it seems studies are showing it does make some difference in preventing reoccurence?
I thought he was mentioning this because he was considering to have me take Mapthera again, but then he said since I've been "clean" for 3 years, it is not necessary.. well, thanks for the info anyway... :)
Later.
April 18 3rd year Update
Salam, We'll, it's been 3 years since my diagnosis, or actually since I started my first chemo (16-APR-05 I thin). Blood/CT looks ok. Next followup in 4 months around August just blood tests. I hear PET scan machine has been installed in the new hospital/building in Kuwait, but it is not yet operational. Probably no one knows how to use it yet ;p At any rate, my local Onco doesn't think I should take any more PETs any time soon. So, I shouldn't need to visit London for that any time soon; we'll see. c u in 4 months insha'Allah. Nasser. August 22 Continued Remission Year 2Salam...
Well, PET/CT and blood tests all fine in terms of the Lymphoma... alhamduli-Allah...
That groin lump I was worried about went away shortly after the scan and before the Dr visit... he thinks it was because of shaving :p which happens (skin irritation. I did shave about two weeks before I noticed the lump, so...).
Next follow-up CT in ~ 6 months (with blood tests in between in Kuwait).
Until then... :)
Salam...
